In fact, not much has changed within the last 10 years, meaning that it is still worthwhile to read. And it does not spread FUD like some other articles do…

The article states some of the preparedness of the emergency responders. This is pretty common way of thinking, and starts on the lowest level; way back, when we rebuilt the barn of our house to an appartment, we had an official visit from the local firefighters chief who had a look at things and getting familiar with the place.

On a much bigger scale, whenever new (rail) infrastructure comes into operation in Switzerland, there will be a big scale practice session for the emergency services (and to make the simulation more realistic, only very few people know what's going on, so that the alerts reach the response centers unexpectedly.

I wonder if it is a taboo in the US to question the ownership of (rail) infrastructure; because considering the importance of it, should it really be in private hands? For me, such a question was a logical consequence from reading the article…
