Re: When Mt. Slover was a real mountain?

Slover Mountain was already becoming a very small "mountain" by 1969 when I worked at Colton.

Somewhere, I have seen a great set of photos taken, from Slover Mountain, when it was still an actual mountain. These shots were looking from the top of the mountain toward "downtown" Colton and the RR's.

These were probably taken sometime shortly after Governor Waterman lead a posse to install the "frog", over the objections of SP's hand picked "town" marshal Virgil Earp, allowing the California Southern mainline to cross the SP, and connect with the Atlantic and Pacific at Barstow, that brought the Santa Fe into CA.

This was probably was from a set of glass plate shots, taken around the mid 1880's which looked down to show the RR's, a Depot, and a very small town, a long time before freeways and flyovers.

And, I seem to recall that at least one short even included the still "new" 1879 roundhouse, that I worked helpers out of....in 1969.

It would be nice to find those and post them.
