The nerve of that guy, toying with a Great Hobby Personage who drove 200 miles to take photos! He wasn't being "friendly," he was purposely dinking the photographer. A jerk? Maybe. but no worse than the guy who turned him in to management.
And . . . the incident in question happened YEARS ago! Maybe Chooch thought it an interesting war story; that mag is bipolar, and not in a Milwaukee Road sense. All foam half the time, trying to be Railway Age the other half.
I once shot a freight led by an SD45 that sounded like it had 12 flat wheels . . . THUMP -- THUMP -- THUMP . . . he second or third time the crew saw me, the front door opened and I got a hairy butt in my face . . . guess the guys were not enjoying their 20-mph, bone rattling ride to the next yard. Maybe I should have complained to management for their rude treatment.
On hot days in the days of yore, many crunchy F and E unit photos were ruined when a crew left the nose door open for ventilation. Now we have the same problem with widenoses. Time to park the cameras and take up whist!
