Actually, I am spoiled in the way that 4500 hp used to be "state of the art" about 50 years ago (and that's produced power, not power rating of the power plant…). So, yes, I am spoiled.
Anyway, the only big 200 km/h diesel application coming to my mind is the British HST, and they do work with two locomotives. I remember one ride from Newcastle to London when one of the locomotive had problems, and we did catch up about 30 minutes delay because of that.
With "commuter style" use, sufficiently high power is a necessity as well, because acceleration is important, and maximum tractive force should be available to speeds up to somewhat around 60 to 80 km/h.
