The way you get these things under cover, restored, whatever, is to support the work. Volunteer, donate, write letters, etc.

I know of several museums that just love it when they are criticized for letting something "rust", but it turns out the person criticizing hasn't paid admission, won't donate, won't shop in the store and won't volunteer.

Not saying Chico hasn't done any of these things, just speaking in general here.
