The article quotes someone involved in checking safety of those crossings and says that even good drivers get caught between the gates. For example, sometimes the gates will pop up only come back down almost immediately. That's not the fault of a driver. It does not make anyone an idiot.

I think there needs to be more education about how to get out of a crossing once the gates come down i.e. telling folks how to just drive through the gates. It's amazing to hear the story about the bus that got caught under a gate and the dads on it got out and tried to push the gates off the bus so it could get out of crossing.

The bus driver should be trained to simply drive straight through those gates.
