Howard.....It would be interesting to know just how many reefers were loaded during the season...When I use to hang out at the depot in Martinez in the early morning, it was not unusual to see as many as four and five reefer blocks, but in most cases it was three a day that were called SV's (Salinas Vegatables)and each train was numbered..at the end of the season, the figure was usually about 1400 for the season, but the figures varied each year, some years it would about 1200 plus...
