From a quick look at page 21 of the book "CF7 Locomotives: From Cleburne to Everywhere" by Cary F. Poole (published by TRP in 1997), it would seem that the first 178 units retained the round cab roof after rebuilding, with the remainder released with the angular cab. It goes on to say that when round-roofed units returned for servicing, they were retrofitted with angular cabs. However, a few were retired and sold without ever having the cab replaced.
