As a fan of draft horses, I found the article to be slightly biased, but interesting none the less. Dairies were really the last bastion of the urban horse, with some dairies using horses up into the late 1960's, abandoning them reluctantly.

I made a YouTube video on the Broadview Dairy of Spokane, featuring lots of draft horses. I bring it up here because for the astute viewer, there are also some good railroad scenes in and around Spokane. Broadview's Marshall farm was just south of the NP main, east of the wye heading down to the Palouse. Their Rosalia farm was just south of town, and had two lines in the photo, an electric line and I think the MILW. There is a shot downtown with the NP depot too, I think before they elevated the line.
