Fuel hog bus??? Try considering that a bus carries many more people than an automobile and think in terms of fuel consumption per passenger-mile. Intercity buses are far more energy efficient than automobiles, Amtrak trains or airplanes. A city transit bus with 7 or 8 passengers is already more energy efficient than a single occupant automobile (in most cities, the average vehicle occupancy is less than 1.2 passengers per vehicle). Buses use road space far more efficiently than cars - three automobiles consume as much road space as a standard 40-foot bus.
