PS: for train emissions, what you're really trying to develop in modeling a service is the total horsepower-hours. That's the unit used for emission standards - grams per horsepower-hour. As with road vehicles, that's measured in a laboratory, but since it's a direct engine-out measurement rather than indirect (based on speed and/or miles traveled as in highway vehicles) it's subject to less interpretation and adjustments.
