When we were young children our parents took us to Elysian Park for picnics just north of the west end of the bridge. We sat on the lawn eating and watching the last of SP steam on the east bank of the river, the SP switching right below us, the occasional AT&SF train crossing the river, and the LATL #5 line on the bridge all at once - it was a wonderful train watching spot. Maybe why I am still addicted to trains. I think the lawn is gone and bushes obscure the view now.
