The eternal us -v- them, in this case the railroad versus the many environmental groups that seem to favour Humboldt county and surrounding area for various reasons. The RR was there before the tree huggers, owl lovers and pot growers. The RR is not really a factor and probably never will be again but irrespective of that, the varied groups have an extraordinary input on life and property.
Ordinary citizens are denied safe access to the river and surrounding area by angry gun toting pot growers (according to reports). The tree huggers have retreated but as the spotted owl is still in trouble, logging is even more in doubt. So add angry loggers who sadly can't find employment along with a high volume of already unemployed in the area, the whole area around Eureka and environs has its problems.
While any RR fan would like to see the railway restored, common sense deems otherwise and if they get back to Willits, they will be very lucky. Forget the rest of the line and let the lawyers get rich on the legalities.
