GW got the Greely Branch sometime in the late 80's or early 90's. UP still has a lot of traffic on their Ft. Collins line - they get the line haul on a lot of the Budweiser traffic. You can trust that UP will hang on to the line as long as they figure its to their advantage - and will dump it as soon as its not. I agree that it seems to make sense to let the GW have it all and run to La Salle to pick up the UP traffic. Obviously UP thinks otherwise as you can be sure the Broe brothers have tried to get the line.
