Sir, you are wrong on that, even into the ditchlight era on RG power the gyralites were operated while moving, and not just for level crossings. You can confirm that yourself by looking at books on the D&RGW in the Post-Anschultz era, I have by checking a few videos shot by myself on trips to the USA. One example was a Grande SD50 leading through the Glenwood Canyon with Head, Ditch and Gyralights ablaze on Bright, and there aren't any crossings in there.
