Viewing the Loop

Please do not go into UP or Loop Ranch property. You will be directed to leave, and the company police will be called if you hesitate.

Parking near the primary loop viewpoint is practical for RVs heading uphill. Too steep for overnight.

There are many alternate viewpionts, both from the county roads and from the state highway. Suggest starting at East of Bakersfield and following the line on an assortment of county and state roads. Let the trains come to you.

For overnight, consider just East of the Post Office at the bottom of the hill, inline with Tunnel 2 (depending on the size of your RV), and roughly inline with the loop tunnel.

Visit the hobby shop in town. She may have a guide sheet.

We enjoyed a several days on the hill, after Winterail, even though UP was absent due to tie replacement between Bakersfield and Fresno.
