Be careful if you find yourself anywhere in Richmond. Especially the Cutting Blvd crossing, which is the Cal P/UP main. Railfans have been robbed there.

Speakign of Richmond, Richmond has a shortline railroad that runs on Saturdays. They also will run on Sunday if unloading coal I believe. This is worht a visit. It is the Richmond PAcific. The power is stored behind fence on 4th St. and you can drive around looking for the couple of jobs running. Then head west on Cutting to check out the autorack yard off Cutting and Canal and then the BNSF yard.

In Point Richmond, drive up the hill on Washington and turn left on Crest Ave. and drive down that to the end. You will be looking down at the golden gate and the old Santa Fe barge slip. From that road you will also be able to look north and see the BNSF yard and watch switching.
