Maybe the airlines and highway carriers need to be weaned off too? Then see what happens.
Passenger rail was never more than a PR tool following World War II. Why do we have AMTRAK?
Because private sector freight rail lines wanted nothing to do with a money losing public service. Try to have two private sector businesses fighting over single owner track when the owner wants nothing to do with the other's nuisance service and what do you get......public regulation, or maybe some form of Darwinian capitalism? Why do we keep revisiting this argument over and over????????
