I was party to a similar occurence on the Tidewater Southern in Turlock in 1979 or '80. As we backed out of a spur toward a street crossing, engineer Monty White lit two fusees. He dropped one out the cab window onto the street on his side, and hurled the other one up and over the top of the cab to the opposite side of the engine. That one landed in the back of a pickup, which drove off (the driver apparently oblivious) after we cleared. Not as dramatic as the above story, but I imagine the driver eventually was in for a surprise. I always wondered what might have been in the back of his truck.
