CSRM's extensive docent training program ensures that new docents begin service to the Museum with a broad knowledge of railroad history, tradition and operations. So the training includes everything from the history of the Pullman Co. to the Big Four, introductions to Museum programs like the restoration shop, living history and the excursion railroad, proper costuming, and information about each of the 20-plus cosmetically restored cars and locomotives on display inside the Museum. The Museum's docents complement the paid staff but serve different functions. And CSRM is rightfully proud of its docents, who account for about 25 percent of all volunteer hours donated at all of California's state parks.
