If the locomotive is lifted by the method described, what would keep the locomotive from rolling over upside down ??? It seems to me that most of the weight ( prime mover, main generator, radiators, electrical cabinet ) is located well above the coupler shank.
I have seen pics of quite a few diesel hood units that have reinforced lifting eyes on the upper edges of both end pilots. Perhaps the railroads that originally ordered these locomotives saw some purpose in these lifting eyes that warrented the extra expense ???
