I believe it was Vallejo? This movie is so much of Santa Rosa I remember as a kid. I think the day train was off by the time this film was made, that would have made for time & equipment to be rented by Hitchcock. There were production stills of Hitchcock and Teresa Wright horsing around in the cab of NWP 140. Some of these films give us a glimpse into the past in a way a book or stills just can't.

Just happened to stumble upon this article in the California Digital Newspaper Collection.
"Rumors See End To NWP Train Service to North." This was March 18, 1938 in the Sausalito News, Volume LIII, Number 11. All freight was to be replaced by truck and all passenger service handled by SP controlled Greyhound. Here's the link whether it works or not, [cdnc.ucr.edu]-------
