"Dredge the River-Keep Petaluma a Port" was even a slogan of the P&SR RR, and the lift bridge is designed to maintain navigation...

A high speed ferry would be needed to cut travel time, but would not be much more impactful than barges, pleasure craft, or fishing boats, on this estuary. A transfer beyond the lift bridge to reduce impacts would even appear to be doable, if you throw enough money at it.

Of course if Marin could just get its s#it together and get this down to the ferry, that would be the ideal solution.......
