Australia also has U.S.-derived carbody diesels since the early 1950s, and many survive and are in operation today.

The Commonwealth Railway ML1, the New South Wales Government Railway (NSWGR) 42 Class, the Victorian Railway S-Class and the Commonwealth Railway CL Class are all single-cab variations of the familiar EMD F-unit, and were built under license by Clyde Engineering. The Victorian Railway also had the ML2 with a bulldog cab on each end! The NSWGR Class 421 combined a bulldog-style cab on one end and a flat cab on the other end.

Some of the CL Class locomotives surviving today are operated by the Australian subsidiary of U.S. railroad holding company Genessee & Wyoming, and even appear in the well-known G&W orange and black color scheme. This particular class has a distinctive look that combines the bulldog-style nose with an angular carbody similar to that of the EMD F40PH.

A former Victorian Railway S-Class has worn not one but two color schemes of U.S. railroads. It's appeared in both the Louisville & Nashville blue and yellow and in the ATSF freight colors (both were done, as I recall, for movie filming).

On the ALCO side, the South Australian Railway 900 and 930 Classes and the NSWGR 44 Class are derivatives of the ALCO "World Locomotive" and have carbodies similar to the ALCO FA, with an FA-style cab on one end and a flat cab on the other.
