Not all police departments disregard railroad vandalism. A few years back I was at the Sunnyvale station (MP 38 on Caltrain) monitoring the police radio when the dispatcher announced there was a report of youths spraying graffiti on a signal at Lawrence. Moments later I saw a police car zip past toward the Lawrence station, returning a short time later on its way to the police station with two sorry-looking kids in the back seat. I figure those kids were either straightened out by the law and their parents, or they're serving a life sentence somewhere today.
