That said, what the Dr. mentioned does happen, and not just to railroads. Many rural roads in the Central Valley have plantings nearly up to the shoulder, so tractors working the rows turn around in the road. And of course the road crews have to be *very* careful with their weed sprays. Be careful out there ...
