First Aid Kits

A few weeks ago there was a question about first aid kits on engines etc. I emailed my cousin, Jed Bullard and this is what he had to say:

"Dear Sellar,

"Bullard probably started supplying first aid kits to the railroads after World War II, but it could have been earlier - in the mid to late 30's even. We really don't know.

However we do know that Bullard supplied first aid supplies to the SP from whenever, to say the early to mid-80's - so maybe a 40 year run.

As far as Johnson & Johnson, no doubt they were around before but the big switch was to "unitized" (the little green boxes) of first aid products which again were developed around WWII. J&J was never interested in the unitized first aid kits which were so popular with railroads, public utilities and the oil industry - industries with a large number of "mobile" employees."
