We haven't heard anything about California's newest light rail line extension on Altamont, so I rode it yesterday. It's relatively fast - indeed I think the operator on one of my trips put the car into emergency because of not responding to the overspeed warning quickly enough. It adds two roller coaster bridges - both vertical and horizontal curves - to those Sacramento already has. The emergency crossovers on the new line between stations are powered and work in both directions. Emerency crossovers on the older lines are just trailing and have hand throw switches. Finally, the new track has more space between the light rail tracks and the UP tracks
