There is no lrv on Altamont. You got mixed up by Joe's quickly-written reference to the SACRAMENTO light rail extension opening. Actually, I did note it here but there was no discussion. See [www.altamontpress.com] a couple of days before the opening. It is a 4+ mile extension at the south end of the "Blue" line, from Meadowview Road station to Cosumnes River College. RT is still working out some kinks, including the need for more cars to cover service on all the lines after adding this mileage, and some grade crossing timing issues causing huge traffic tieups (allegedly 10 minute delays on Meadowview).

Saw another article today (can't find the link right now) about the new cars, and how they are longer than the existing Siemens and CAF equipment so they can only run in 3-car trains instead of 4 to avoid blocking traffic too much at downtown stations (short blocks). But they were cheap...
