The F-7 was just a higher tractive effort update of the earlier F-3, which was an update of the original "covered wagon" MU'd diesel locomotive consist the FT's in design down to the ABBA configuration, and the streamline nose design seems to have descended from the E-2's and E-3's.

I'm not sure who was involved in the design and/or refinements over a 22 year period from the first FT's in 1939 to the last F-9's in 1960, or all of the hundreds of F-3's and F-7's in between. It seems like a lot of folks would have been. I read a story of the FT's a few years ago that seemed to indicate this was more the product of a design team, than of any individual. Most references I have would seem to indicate the same.

If there was actually person who spearheaded this design and ultimately the F-7 in particular, then I probably won't win this contest.
