J.K's Fliegender Hamburger 1934
James Kok the bandleader was born in Rumania in 1902. He was very successful in Germany and made his first disk recordings with Deutsche Grammophon in 1933. Then the Nazis got after him and he was forced to flee to Switzerland in 1937. In 1969 he returned to Germany from the USA and died in Berlin in 1976. The music is from a series of CD's called "Swing Tanzen VERBOTEN" and is a collection of music forbidden by the Nazis. There is a reprint of a poster of regulations with the heading:
"Kein Nigger-Jazz im Radio" and it goes down hill from there.
If you want to see one of these "doodlebugs" check out the Leipsig Hauptbahnhof. Several tracks are a museum.
