If by quirk a Republican prez were elected the regulatory climate for some rail M&A might be more favorable.

I know this will be very inflamatory but I suggest the UP offer the BNSF a whole bunch of money for the Transcon outright. Buffett had a bad year and could use the money. ha ha

They might be able to sell the idea on the basis of rationalization and various economies.

I do wonder if the loss of coal and oil business and Panama Canal upgrades could force more rail consolidation in the near future.
