I remember the 491 fondly. The guys in the roundhouse at Alamosa let my brother and I up into the cab while they were putting the tank back on the 493, fresh out of the shop. That was the summer of 1960. Good times.

I seem to recall seeing the 491 at Alamosa in 1972 or thereabouts. There was also an ex-NdeM steel coach. The standard gauge part of the roundhouse was still standing at that time.
