A colleague who once served as a RBB&B train master advised those elephants, as performers, got very good treatment - it costs a lot to have them in the show and it would be foolish to abuse them. The article quotes an animal rights proponent as saying they lived lives of misery in order to perform silly tricks. Sounds like a silly quote to me.
