There is a public debate by individuals and firms expressing legitimate public policy concerns about a merger affecting their individual welfare and self interest protected by the First Amendment. There is no real evidence of any acts of the kind of "collusion" under the standards required by the anti-trust acts that would likely result in a prosecution under the anti-trust statutes.
It's just another quasi-legalistic sounding political "press release" PR stunt and "soundbite" to muddy the waters of public opinion. CP pursuing a merger, which many, including shippers, as well as connecting and competing firms, who feel this merger is not in the public interest and would create less competition.
Given the facts of the proposed merger and it's likely negative effects on long run competition, which our anti-trust statutes are intended to protect us from, it is really quite cheeky on CP's part, to use this spin......
Nice try CP, but with enough fiber, this too shall pass........
