They're not "sexy" projects and they're hard to get donations for, but fences, lights and cameras are essential. Won't stop everyone asswipe, but will stop a lot and will show the local authorities you mean business protecting your assets. And put up NO TRESPASSING signs. Lots of them.

And, yeah, if you can fence the area well enough, a couple big dogs and a live on site caretaker are good ideas.
