Good suggestions on security, it is needed, if you are serious about RR preservation and restoration.
Scrappers are a big problem, and weak enforcement, lax oversight of those fencing these stolen bikes, brass, manhole covers, and other obviously stolen items are hardly ever investigated or prosecuted. Fences, cameras, signs, proper protection services, or even large dogs, can do a lot to prevent crap like this, but nothing is perfect....especially humans.
The last time I checked, the people in Kansas were in the same bell curve for greedy, stupid, and criminal behavior as you find elsewhere, so I'm not surprised, that ignorant fools like these can be found in the "heartland" too.... Vandals tend to be young, bored, and stupid....and Kansas is pretty boring.
We also have a lot of lazy useless dicks who steal batteries and scrap who are just lazy greedy thieves, and some of them I've known were even white, had well paid jobs, and some I've known even worked for the SP..... Self serving greedy dicks are not limited to just corporate CEO's in management positions. So there is always plenty of opportunity in America to be a thieving dick, if that is what you really want to be?
We really do have a serious problem with a criminal class that has never been educated, has no job skills, and can't find work, so they will eventually either steal or go back to selling drugs.....
We need more things like CCC camps and the like to intercept these future losers, before they become hopeless wrecks, to give them structure and focus. There used to be the join the army or go to jail option, back when we had a draft, which kept a lot of folks from falling into a downward spiral, and gave the an opportunity to get their $#it together. And, we probably need something like a CCC "diversion" type of program to replace it.
Prop. 47 just stopped sending these chronic low level losers to prisons, where we spend a fortune to house, feed, and give them expensive medical care. We were pissed off about the costs of that, and now we're pissed off, that some of these chronic low level losers are back on the street, committing petty crap like the stuff in these posts.....
