Digging up some olde stuff to feed the trolls? Are we into alternative history here?

Based on the East Bay's experience, the supervisor who said it would dramatically increase growth in the area was probably right; Marin/Sonoma would not have stayed the (relatively) lightly-populated area it is, and water would have become a much more severe problem. Well before now, BART would have gone (or at least the discussion would be going on for it) into Sonoma County, with consequences for the wine business as the area emulated San Jose. But it didn't happen, so we are now dealing with a different situation where the North Bay isn't dependent entirely on SF jobs. Not necessarily good or bad; just different from what it would have been with BART.

If you want BART in Marin now, it be be at least as effective to extend the Richmond line across to San Rafael so commuters can get to the East Bay and even San Jose (with the extension happening). Still not going to happen; the potential traffic doesn't justify the many billion$ it would cost, unless for some reason the Richmond Bridge has to be closed and replaced.

OK, cue the usual conspiracy theories. Anyway, very old news (check the date?) but interesting description of how things happened and who was involved.
