I knew about the relaxed requirements for motorcars. What surprised me was that they are permitted to move passengers in revenue service on track the railroad would not be permitted to do so. Theoretically, with the railroads and the SCCRTC’s permission, an operator could offer a cab service with motorcars to move passengers on the Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line. They could charge a fare for the service and not have to be regulated by the FRA. I would not be surprised if we see this proposed in the near future.
