In honor of this thread title I had to dial up "The Beat Goes On" on Youtube. Yep, still as crummy a tune as it was back then.

But anyway, "la-dee da-dee dee," why should I feel sorry for Central Valley Farmers? Surely they will be well compensated for the land taken by the HSR. When Shinkansen was built through the Japanese rice paddies, I will bet you the farmers said 'so be it'. And their rice crop is more important than almond trees and what not grown in the Central Valley.
