Supposedly it would kick up the cost per gallon of gas by 22 cents. Instead of doing the big symbolic gesture of taxing the barrel why don't they just up the gas tax by 22 cents? We're going to be paying it anyway. Not the oil companies. Heck, why not make it an even quarter. With gas prices low people won't gripe too much.

Filtering the tax through the oil companies will just give them justification in jacking up the price of gas even more.

Both sides of the isle is stupid on this one. Obama thinks we're too stupid to realize the tax per barrel isn't going to be passed on to us. But the Republicans are being stupid to prohibit higher gas taxes considering inflation is causing the cost of doing road repairs or improvements to go up.
