Well, I may stand corrected. The only reference I can find is the place I originally read it: [en.wikipedia.org], which mentions that "Caltrans, the Port of Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority have publicly announced plans to electrify the corridor, in order to reduce the troublingly high particulate emissions along the route."

A few minutes on Google left me unable to substantiate that claim. I may edit the Wikipedia article accordingly.

If it does come to pass, it might be nice for those of you living near it...
