Australia among other countries uses cylindrical tread train wheels similar to BART for the same reasons. They are used on both freight and passenger cars. Are their mechanical engineers also all wrong?

About causing rail corrugations I refer you to San Francisco Muni. Rail corrugations near car stops only became bad after Muni started using all PCC cars replacing the iron monsters. Perhaps BART rail corrugations are a function of noise reducing wheels used by BART. BART wheels are very different from PCC wheels.

Mr. But: Did you ever ride the early BART cars with tapered tread wheels? I did. Even passengers could feel the trucks hunting.
