If you go back and read my post carefully, I never said your story wasn't true. In fact I have no reason to doubt you had to endure this ordeal (it was the story I had in mind BTW). What I said was that as far as your being grilled was the result of some new Federal law or regulation, which other posters had asserted, the teller at my bank said "never heard of such a thing". If it was a law or regulation passed last November, as was asserted in at least one of those other posts, that would not have been the answer because it would apply to all banks, not just BofA.
Based on what you've said, it's a BofA's policy, and that was my point: the treatment you received isn't the result of a Federal law nor regulation.
"Rules" is too vague a term because some people think of them in a narrow fashion, like bank policies, while other have statues or regulations in mind. Regulations aren't "law", although they have the force of law.
IMHO, this sort of treatment of customers, particularly long standing ones, is a good reason to change banks. My grandfather was in line to become VP of the real B of A when he passed away suddenly (at the time it was B of I), but I got out of BofA right after the take-over by Nation's Bank because of the sudden escalation in fees for this and fees for that (what I've taken to calling "fee-icide"). BofA should really be "Bank of North Carolina".
