Used to be interesting to go into a LaBou at lunch time. Seemed like 5 minutes to take order & pay for everybody (seemed like everybody) with a CC/DC, and that was when you could swipe not do the chip thing (5 minutes more!). When I got there & paid cash it was 2 minutes in and out. The line out the door seemed never to move unless they got several cash payers in a row. And the little ad for their store card was that it speeds things up - NOT.

OTOH, recent visits to Starbucks show that using their card is quicker than paying cash, mainly because the order taker has to actually enter the amount tendered and wait for the register to talk to the Mothership to figure out the change due, which then has to be carefully counted out. Yes, a Starbucks store is out of business if there's a network outage - can't do anything, even cash. And heaven help me if I show up with a Dollar Coin (which is commonly given out as change by the Sac RT and LA Metrolink ticket machines, if they're working) or a $2 bill, or even a 50-cent piece, all of which are legal tender but seldom seen!

Changing the picture is going to require going into the stop-n-rob twice for buying gas. None of the cash machines on the pump islands (which are often broken anyway) will accept $20s after the picture changes.
