The GP - 15 was EMD's response to various railroad rebuilding efforts in the 1970's. The GP - 15 was basically a 2nd generation GP-9, with a low short hood. It is higher and longer than a SW - 1500, with less visibility down the long hood end. Don't know if it is heavier though, based on comments from California Northern engineers who found their ex - C&NW GP-15's to be a bit slippery.
