"What’s even more encouraging is that we’re starting to see signs that this shift away from coal is happening globally. China has sharply dropped its coal imports, while earlier this year Vietnam announced plans to abandon its previously ambitious coal power plants in favor of investment in renewable energy. India’s coal imports dropped by a surprising 35 percent last year due to massive oversupply and a quicker-than-expected expansion in renewables."
Only half right. You can blame the slowing world economy for most of this (see how they spin it?). BUT China and India are both still building coal fired power plants, just not as many as they had predicted (which was a very inflated number anyway). China and India are not going to be getting away from coal any time soon, so the Sierra Club needs to get off their high horse. It clear China wants to bulldoze older less efficient power plants and build new ones to replace them. Whats likely to happen is some of the new one's built will be able to burn both low sulfur coal and natural gas. The high sulfur stuff is on the way out.
"Now, we just need to take care of natural gas and oil."
What a asinine statement. For example how does this moron think the chemical industry plans to get its feedstock it you get rid of NG and/or NGL's?? Does he even know how many people the industry employs? Apparently not. It's the only big industry that has "reshored" some business segments from oversea's back to America and it's because of abundant and now cheap natural gas. I guess this idiot has never been to the gulf coast of Texas or Louisiana.
