The Florida project represents what we should be doing in CA, instead of the poorly planned and completely mismanaged bloated pile of change orders they are building in Fresno......

The Florida HSR project will achieve speeds of 125 mph. and is considered HSR. No it doesn't go a maximum speed of 200 because it doesn't have to, in order to penetrate the station to station markets they are targeting. It is a high speed system they can afford, people will use, and that could even generate a real profit for investors.

Maximum speed and maximum cost were not the only criteria this private sector investment used to build a cost effective and potentially "profitable" regional high speed system that actually meets local travel demands in Florida's southeast coastal corridor.

This is completely unlike the CAHSRA fiasco and contractor feeding frenzy in California, where "maximum" speed was equated with the maximum size of Kopp's "manliness", and where the object of the CAHSRA "planning" was a cost is no object contracting scheme, regardless of any of our actual travel patterns or future demands. In California our project is based on no real planning, and makes sense only from the standpoint of the concept of "build it and they will come", or at least on the concept that the contractors certainly will come...?
