I was running the Texas Limited passenger service from Houston to Galveston in the early 90's during a layoff from SP. We had a dome in our consist, and crossing the causway from galveston made it the highest thing for quite a ways. It got hit numerous times with no damage what so ever as the Budd cars stainless shell acted as a faraday cage and passed it to earth. Have had loco's struck, also with no damage. I do know, however that lightening can fry signal equipment from time to time.
