Hi WSABO--
There are three technical consultants that assist Greg Scholl in putting together historic railroad videos, especially on Western Pacific, Southern Pacific and West Coast lumber operations: Phil Gosney, Evan Werkema, and myself .
I contacted SONY pictures for Greg and was followed up later by Greg himself. We just wanted to use the clip of the SP 4443 entering Oakland Pier in the "Pal Joey" movie, strictly to enhance the video we did entitled "SP Steam Excursions", which is great, if you've never seen it. The lady who responded was very professional and understood what we wanted to do, which was fine-- but they still wanted a LOT of money. So Greg said NO !!
We followed up on our production with "SP Steam Variety"--and then "West Coast Loggers".
When you collect motion picture film for years, you are glad when it can be put to good use and entertain the railfan kingdom !
